Forest fire along LoC triggers landmines explosion in Poonch’s Mendhar

Jammu, Jul 1 : A major forest fire has triggered explosion of landmines along the Line of Control on Thursday in Mendhar area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources said that many landmines exploded along the LoC after devastating fire broke out in forward areas of Mendhar.
“The fire broke out close to the fence on Thursday and it shifted to nearby parts of the border by afternoon,” official sources said.
They said that the fire broke out across the border and spread to this side.
The fire covered a larger area along the LoC, which put Army personnel guarding forward posts on alert.
“Due to jungle fire, many mines also exploded while the loud sound of explosions panicked the border dwellers,” they said.
However, no loss of any life of damage to the property was reported in forest inferno.(UNI)
