Expert committee should make strong recommendations to govt to contain spread of COVID-19: Rane
Panaji, Dec 30 : With Goa witnessing steep rise in Covid-19 cases on the third consecutive day, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane Today said the expert committee should make strong recommendations to the government, so that it can act accordingly.
In a series of tweets, Mr Rane said,” It is a very critical stage as Goa is a small state and a jump of 7.23 pc in the last three days (112, 170, 261) is a matter of great concern. Hence it is important that the expert committee guides the government.”
“In view of the new year celebrations, it is very important that the expert committee makes strong recommendations to the government, so that we can act accordingly,” he said.
Stating that notable jump from 0 pc to 7.23 pc in the last 3 days clearly indicated a rise in Covid-19 cases in Goa, he said that he had instructed Director of Directorate of Health Services (DHS) and Dean of Goa Medical College (GMC) to hold a meeting with the expert group of doctors to take a review of the situation and suggest stringent measures.
He said the state government is already in the process of procuring a genome sequencing machine.
“I have issued directions to Dean GMC to pursue proposal for another machine that we would already submitted to the govt for clearance. This will enable us to test samples in the state and avail results at the earliest,” he said.
“The government of Goa is working unabated to ensure we get a genome sequencing machine at the earliest,” he added.
