ED files Prosecution Complaint in Jaipur red sanders smuggling case

New Delhi, Apr 1: Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday said that it has filed a Prosecution Complaint which is equivalent to police charge sheet Jaipur PMLA Special Court against accused persons namely Anil Gadodia of Delhi, Euro Export owner Rameshwar Sharma of Jaipur, a Thai national Yodying and Mayur Ranjan in a case related to the smuggling of red sanders.

The officials in the probe agency said that in this case, movable and unmovable assets worth Rs 1.44 crore belonging to the accused persons had already been attached.

The central financial agency initiated an investigation on the basis of the ‘Prosecution Complaint’ filed by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) against Anil Gadodia, Rameshwar Sharma, and other accused persons before the Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Economic Offences), Jaipur. Further, a ‘Show Cause Notice’ was also issued by DRI in the same matter.

Money laundering investigation revealed that Rameshwar Sharma of Jaipur exported or attempted to export the red sanders supplied by Anil Gadodia of Delhi in connivance with other co-accused persons.

“Yodying, a permanent citizen of Thailand was acting at the behest of foreign persons who were purchasing red sanders while Mayur Ranjan who was fluent in the Chinese language was acting as a translator and was assisting the other accused persons”, the ED said in a statement.

DRI had recovered and seized four of such containers from Mundra Port which were to be exported to Hong Kong in the guise of marble slabs wherein 14.25 metric tons of Red Sander woods were found stuffed and concealed with around 94 metric tons of marble slabs.

Anil Gadodia and Rameshwar Sharma received around Rs 1.40 Crore for this illegal activity and the agency has already attached properties having a value of the said ‘Proceeds of Crime’ along with the cash amounting to Rs 4.2 Lakh relating to other co-accused Yodying of Thailand, the ED said, adding that further investigation, in this case, was under progress.
