EAM discusses bilateral ties, Afghanistan with Finnish counterpart

New Delhi, Jan 19 : External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar Today spoke with Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto and discussed bilateral cooperation as well as exchanged views about Afghanistan in detail.

The EAM said the two sides have cooperated in the past in Afghanistan on providing humanitarian support there.

With both India and Finland elected in October last year to the Human Rights Council (HRC) for the 2022-2024 term, he said the two sides would work closely with each other in international organizations including the UN Human Rights Council.

In tweets, he said:

“A wide ranging discussion with FM @Haavisto of Finland.

“Noted the steady growth of our bilateral cooperation. Agreed that we would work to strengthen it further in 2022.

“Exchanged views about Afghanistan in detail. India and Finland have cooperated in the past on humanitarian support there.

“Expect to work closely with each other in international organizations including the UN Human Rights Council.”(UNI)
