Drug peddler arrested in Kulgam; contraband recovered
Srinagar, Aug 1: A drug peddler was arrested along with a huge cache of contraband in the south Kashmir district of Kulgam Today.
A police spokesperson said that following specific information about the transportation of drugs, a checkpoint was established near Chamgund in Kulgam. “Police intercepted a motorcycle and during checking recovered 20 kg of poppy straw concealed in two gunny bags,” he said.
He said the accused, identified as Hilal Ahmad Dar, was immediately taken into custody. “Motorcycle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized,” he said, adding a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police station Devsar and investigation has been taken up.
He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighborhood, adding persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. “Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
