Dhaka metro will reopen after a 37-day break.

DHAKA, AUG 24 :  The metro rail is set to resume operations on Sunday, following its regular schedule after 37 days of closure, media reports said.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited’s secretary, Mohammad Abdur Rauf, confirmed that the Kazipara and Mirpur 10 stations, damaged during recent unrest, will remain closed, the Dhaka Tribune reported.

According to reports, other officials, including Dr Zakaria, the project director for the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project (Line-6), confirmed that trial runs were conducted on Thursday and Friday to ensure safe operations on Sunday.

The closure occurred on July 18, when angry protesters, during a “complete shutdown” as part of the quota reform movement, set fire to a police box at Mirpur 10 roundabout. The fire’s black smoke affected the metro rail, leading to a suspension of service at 5:30pm that day. The next day, July 19, the metro rail remained closed for the weekend. Later that afternoon, miscreants severely damaged the Kazipara and Mirpur 10 stations, which led to the prolonged closure of the metro rail service, ‘ reports added.(UNI)
