DGP disputes TN BJP’s claim that there was a security breach during the PM’s visit to the Chess Olympiad
CHENNAI, NOV 30: Dismissing BJP Tamil Nadu unit President and former IPS officer K.Annmalai’s allegation that there was a
security lapse during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to inaugurate the World Chess Olympiad, State DGP C.Sylendra
Babu denied the charges.
Talking to reporters here, Sylendra Babu on Wednesday said that there was no security breach during the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Chennai.
“There were no reports of any disturbance during the Prime Minister’s visit. Since more than a century ago, it has been customary to thoroughly inspect (or audit) the condition of all the equipment, including the safety equipment that the police may use, and, if necessary, to replace any out-of-date items with new ones.”
“Only Tamil Nadu has a large number of high-quality security equipment,” he said, adding, all modernised equipment were deployed that ensured that there was no breach of security.
Annamalai, in a plea to Governor RN Ravi, claimed that there were lapses during Modi’s visit to Chennai earlier this July for the Chess Olympiad event.
Chief Minister M K Stalin, Governor R N Ravi, and dignitaries from over 180 countries participated in the mega event.
In a statement, the BJP said that it has come to light that most of the hand-held metal detectors, door frame metal detectors, and bomb detectors that were used in the security arrangement were not in order and overdue for maintenance.(UNI)
