Despite COVID, UP Govt purchases 41.56 LMT of Wheat from 8.83 lakh farmers
Lucknow, Jun 2 : Despite the second wave of Covid-19, the Uttar Pradesh government has purchased 41.56 Lakh Metric Tonne of wheat so far.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said repeatedly that each farmer is important to the Government. “The procurement process is not limited to the mere fulfilment of the prescribed procurement target. Till the single farmer is there to sell his produce, we will buy every single grain of wheat.”
Procurement of Wheat in ongoing Rabi Marketing season 2021-22 is continuing smoothly in UP at MSP. Till now, a quantity of over 41.56 LMT of Wheat has been procured against the last year corresponding purchase of 24.76 LMT, which is almost double in comparison.
Food and Supply Commissioner Manish Chauhan said here on Wednesday that about 8,83,603 farmers have already been benefitted from the ongoing procurement operations. On June 1, the government purchased around 1.06 LMT of wheat from the farmers.
“We have already made a payment of Rs 6355.45 crores directly into the bank accounts of farmers against sale of their Wheat crop on the directions of the Government of india” informed Manish Chauhan. This is the first time that money is directly reaching the accounts of farmers within 72 hours of purchase in UP.
To ensure that farmers do not face any problem, the government has nominated seven purchasing agencies, including the Department of Food and Supplies, PCF, UPSS, UPPCU, SFC, Mandi Parishad and Food Corporation of India.
So far the Food Department has procured 1060896.17 MT, PCF 1951128.45 MT, UPSS 344528.86 MT, UPPCU 498568.40 MT, SFC 85789.78 MT, Mandi Parishad 108117.15 MT and Food Corporation of India has purchased 107040.25 MT of the total wheat.(UNI)
