Delhi HC gives green light to Kejriwal Govt’s door-to-door ration delivery scheme

New Delhi, Sep 30 :The Delhi High Court (HC) has given a green light to the Arvind Kejriwal’s led government’s doorstep delivery scheme, Delhi government sources said.

The court ruled in favour of the Delhi Government’s scheme in a case where the Delhi Sarkari Ration Dealers Sangh had moved the HC for home delivery of ration under the scheme.

The sources said that during the hearing, the Delhi Government’s counsel submitted that an overwhelming majority was in favour of the scheme and the previous court order also did not stop the services under the scheme.

The court took note of the counsel’s submissions and also made note of it, they added.

“The court also said the submission of the counsel that an overwhelming majority have opted for the supply of rations at their doorstep and the Delhi Government will give an option to beneficiaries to opt-out if they want,” a senior government official said.

The Delhi Government had undertaken the exercise of asking PDS cardholders, as to whether they prefer to continue with the existing system of collecting their rations from the existing PDS shops or to have their rations delivered at their doorstep.

However, the Delhi Government’s counsel submitted that beneficiaries, under the PDS scheme, who will opt for delivery of rations at their doorsteps, would have the option to once again opt-out and go back to the fair price shops for collection of their rations at any time, according to the sources.

The Delhi Government would publicise, for the benefit of the beneficiaries under the PDS scheme, the essential terms and conditions of the order, the officials informed.(UNI)
