DCW takes cognizance of Vivek Vihar rape
New Delhi, Jan 27:The Delhi Commission for Women Today issued notice to Delhi Police, demanding the immediate arrest of all those involved in the kidnapping and gang rape of a 20-year-old woman. Criminals brutally raped and tortured the woman due to which she has horrific wounds and bruises all over her body, DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal said after meeting the victim. Maliwal demanded immediate arrest of the culprits including the women who abetted the rape and asked police to provide security to the victim and her family. Delhi Police should take immediate steps to crack down on illegal sale of liquor and drugs in the capital as the morale of criminals involved in these acts was increasing day by day, Maliwal said, urging the police to teach the criminals a lesson for the safety of the entire society. The victim told Maliwal that she was kidnapped and was raped by three men. The victim said that while she was being sexually abused, some women instigated the men to further rape her. Asked for more information about the culprits, the 20-year-old expressed threat to her life and said that all these people were involved in illegal trade of liquor and drugs. The women said that the criminals beat her mercilessly, shaved her head, blackened her face and made her walk around the area with a garland of slippers and shoes. A video of the incident was recovered by the Commission. The Commission has also sought details of all the previous complaints against the accused, especially those involved in the illicit liquor and drug trade. Moreover, the Delhi Police has been asked to submit steps taken by them to ensure the victim’s safety. Delhi Police has been asked to provide a detailed Action Taken Report to the Commission within 72 hours. (UNI)
