COVID: 545 new cases, 6 deaths in UT in past 24 hours

Puducherry, Jun 8 : As many as 545 more persons were tested positive for Coronavirus and six patients died in the Union Territory during the last 24 hours, ending at 10 AM on Tuesday, taking the tally of COVID-19 cases to 1,10,106 and deaths to 1,644.

However, since the infection cases are coming down considerably in the UT, more relaxations were given while extending the lockdown till June 14 to contain the spread of the Corona virus.

According to the COVID-19 status released by the health department here, of the 9,092 swab sample tests conducted on Monday, 545 persons tested positive for the virus.

About 400 new cases were reported in Puducherry region, 112 in Karaikal region, 24 in Yanam region and nine in Mahe region.

In the last 24 hours, 938 persons were discharged and 782 of them were from Puducherry region,124 from Karaikal region, 20 from Yanam region and 12 from Mahe region.

Presently, 869 patients are being treated in Puducherry region,124 in Karaikal region, 57 in Yanam region and 65 in Mahe region. Another, 6,032 persons tested positive for COVID-19 were taking treatment under home isolation in all the four regions of UT.

So far, 1,10,106 persons were infected by Corona virus and of which 1,01,315 patients were treated and discharged, 1,644 people died and 7,147 patients were undergoing treatment in hospitals and home isolation.

Of the six fatalities, all males, succumbed in Puducherry region due to COVID related problems.

The test positivity rate in the UT stood at 5.99 per cent, case fatality rate stands at 1.49 per cent and recovery rate is at 92.02 per cent.

As many as 2,91,685 persons including healthcare workers, frontline workers and general public were so far given COVID vaccine in the Union Territory.(UNI)
