COVID : 47 new cases, one death in UT
Puducherry, Mar 22 : The Coronavirus infection cases in the Union Territory mounted to 40,433 and death toll to 676 with 47 more persons tested positive for COVID-19 and one fatality reported in the last 24 hours, ending at 10 AM on Monday.
The lone death was reported in Karaikal region of the UT.
According to COVID-19 status released by the health department here, of the 519 swab sample tests conducted on Sunday, 47 persons tested positive for the Coronavirus.
As many as 43 new cases were reported in Puducherry region and two each in Karaikal and Mahe regions.
About 29 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours and 17 of them were from Puducherry region, seven from Karaikal region and five from Mahe region.
Presently, 177 patients are being treated in Puducherry region, 19 in Karaikal region and four in Mahe region.
Another, 212 persons tested positive for COVID are taking treatment under home isolation in all the four regions of the Union Territory.
So far, 40,433 persons were infected by the virus and of which 39,345 patients were treated and discharged, 676 people died and 412 patients were undergoing treatment in hospitals and home isolation.
The case fatality rate in the UT is 1.67 per cent and the recovery rate is 97.31 per cent.
A 65-year-old woman, Jayalakshmi with Diabetes Mellitus and hypertension as comorbidity died in the Karaikal Government Hospital yesterday due to Covid 19 viral Pneumonia and ARDS.
As many as 44,166 persons were given COVID Vaccine in the UT so far. This include 19,627 healthcare workers, 7,146 frontline workers and 17,393 are general public.(UNI)
