COVID : 20 new cases, one death in UT
Puducherry, Feb 27 :As many as 20 more persons were tested positive for Coronavirus and one died since the last 24 hours, ending at 10 AM on Saturday, taking the tally of COVID infection cases to 39,717 and death toll to 668 in the Union Territory.
According to the COVID-19 status released by the health department here, of the 1,414 swab sample tests conducted on Friday, 20 persons tested positive for the virus.
Nine new cases each were from Puducherry and Karaikal regions and two from Yanam region.
For the first time Mahe region reported no fresh cases.
About 16 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours and 10 of them were from Puducherry region, two from Karaikal region and four from Mahe region.
The lone death was reported in Puducherry region.
Presently, 80 patients are being treated in Puducherry region, five in Karaikal region, three in Yanam region and 13 in Mahe region.
Another, 96 persons diagnosed positive for COVID were taking treatment under home isolation in all the four regions of the UT.
So far, 39,717 persons were infected by COVID and of which 38,852 patients were treated and discharged, 668 people died and 197 patients were undergoing treatment in hospitals and home isolation.
An 87-year-old man Rajendran with Diabetes Mellitus, Old TB and CKD as Comorbidity,died in Jipmer yesterday due to Covid Pneumonia, severe ARDS and Septic shock.
The case fatality rate in the UT is 1.68 per cent and the recovery rate is 97.82 per cent .
As many as 10,329 persons (9,589 healthcare workers and 740 frontline workers) were administered Covid Vaccine in the UT so far. (UNI)
