Covid-19: Journalists recognised as frontline warriors: Dr G Srinivas Rao

Hyderabad, May 26 : Telangana Public Health Director G Srinivas Rao has said that the state government has recognized Journalists as frontline worriers and their vaccination programme will be started through the Public Relation Department from May 28.

Talking to media here on Wednesday, Dr Rao said that the state’s Covid-19 positivity rate is declining. The State’s positivity rate is 4.1 per cent, recovery rate is 92.52 and the death rate is 0.52, he said.

Stating that the vaccination programme is continuing successfully in the state, Dr Rao said the vaccination centres would be increased in the private sector to 1200 in the state.

He said, so far 56 lakh people were vaccinated in the State. At present 6.18 lakh doses of Covishield and 2.5 lakh doses of Covaxin doses are available in the state and expecting some more doses in the first week of June, Dr Rao said.

Mr Rao said that the government has recognized the people who were in touch with the people as Super spreaders and decided to vaccinate them between May 28 to 30.

He said that those who took Covishiled as the first dose they should take the second dose in between 12 and 16 weeks and those who took Covaxin should take a second dose in between four to six weeks.

Stating that the Covid-19 tests are conducting four people out of 10, Dr Rao said the bed strength was increased from 55,000 to 55,120 within a week.

He said, at present 31,375 out of 55,120 beds are vacant in the state. The total Covid-19 patients were 23,745. Of them 40 per cent of patients are Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh. ICU beds concerned, 612 in Government, 3,977 beds are vacant. Oxygen beds concerned, 9,718 beds, 2,750 in government and 6,968 in private are vacant in the state.(UNI)
