Congress protests against fuel price hike holds cycle rally

Margao, Jul 10: Protesting against rising in the prices of fuel and essential commodities across the country, the Goa Congress held a cycle rally here Today.

Addressing the large number of Congress functionaries who had assembled at the historic Lohia Maidan to protest against the rising fuel and other essential commodities prices, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat alleged that the most irresponsible BJP Government had pushed every citizen into a debt trap by creating a financial emergency.

He said the Congress party would fight against the rising prices of fuel and other essential commodities.

‘Today’s protest Cycle Rally is beginning of a new revolution against BJP Government,’ he said.

‘BJP Government had grabbed power in Goa in 2012 promising people to cap the petrol prices at Rs 60 per liter. Today, the prices have touched almost a hundred,’ he pointed out.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) GPCC President Girish Chodankar, Navelim MLA Luzinho Faleiro, Ex- Nuvem MLA Alex Sequeira, Congress Vice President Altino Gomes, South Goa District Congress President Joe Dias, Margao Block Congress President Gopal Naik, Vice Chairperson of MMC Dipali Sawal and other Congress Functionaries participated in the Cycle Rally after paying tributes at the Martyrs Memorial and Statue of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia.

The Cycle Rally concluded at the South Goa Collectorate Building.

‘BJP government is looting the people by literally extorting money by way of taxes on fuel prices. Where this money is going,?’ questioned GPCC President Girish Chodankar.

‘We demand immediate rollback of the fuel and gas prices. BJP Government is not concerned about the hardships faced by the people in the testing times of Covid Pandemic,’ former Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro.

South Goa District Congress President Joe Dias termed the rising fuel prices as an insensitive act of the BJP government which was not concerned about the suffering of the people.

Today’s Cycle Rally was the third protest held by the Congress Party in Goa as part of its nationwide campaign against the Modi Government.

Earlier, Mahila and Youth Congress had held a protest march in Panaji beating drums condemning the price hike on July 8.

Sankhali, Valpoi, and Bicholim Block Congress had organised a bullock cart protest march on July 9 at Sankhali.

‘We will continue with our agitation till the prices are rolled back,’ said Altino Gomes. (UNI)
