CM directs officials to be on high alert as IMD predicts heavy rainfall in AP

Vijayawada July 12 : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday directed the officials to be vigilant in view of forecast of heavy rains by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) during the next two days in the state and review the situation from time to time.

During a video conference with district Collectors, the Chief Minister said that the river Godavari is in spate due to receiving heavy inflows due to continous rainfall in catchment areas and heavy rains in various parts of Odisha, Maharashtra and Telangana.

About 10 lakh cusecs of flood water is being released into the sea through Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram on Godavari river.

Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority today issued a second flood warning at Dowleswaram barrage in Rajamahendravaram due to flood discharge levels crossed the 13 lakh mark.

Reddy directed the officials to be on alert as there are indications of an increase in flood discharge levels up to 16 lakh cusecs.

He said that the government is releasing immediate funds of Rs 2 crore each to Alluri Sitarama Raju, East Godavari, Eluru, and Ambedkar Konaseema districts, which are flood prone and receive heavy rains and ordered the officials to send time-to-time reports on the situation.

Stressing that there should be no loss of life under any circumstances, the Chief Minister told the officials to be prepared with SDRF and NDRF teams and also instructed the district collectors to set up control rooms and relief camps for housing people shifted from inundated areas, by providing proper facilities.

He also told them to provide Rs 1000 as a relief to the individual victims and Rs 2000 as a relief to families.

Reddy asked them to take all necessary precautionary measures to prevent damage and ensure that all types of medications are available at PHCs, Area Hospitals, and District Hospitals, along with generators to meet emergency services without any interruption.

He ordered that due priority be accorded to power restoration works, plugging breaches to canals in case of damages, and also supplying drinking water to all the affected areas.(UNI)
