Charminar & other iconic monuments across India, world go blue to commemorate WCD 2021

Hyderabad, Nov 20 : Historic Charminar, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) in Hyderabad and some 250 iconic monuments, structures and institutions across India and world have gone blue since Friday evening, to commemorate the World Children’s Day (WCD) 2021, a global day of action for children, by children, that marks the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) Today.
India, and countries all over the world, have witnessed a week-long celebration culminating into the WCD, on November 20.
Monuments across the country – from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House and Qutub Minar in New Delhi, and other historical buildings, landmarks and government buildings across India have lit up in blue lights on November 19-20, signifying the nation-wide celebration of child rights and to put the spotlight on learning recovery.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented disruptions to children’s education, with schools closed for longer periods across the country.
Children are losing a lot more than just education – they have lost time with their teachers and friends, nutritious school meals and in some cases a safe haven that prevents abuse and violence.
As the world commemorates the 32 years of the adoption of CRC, and UNICEF celebrates its 75th anniversary, this year’s World Children’s Day is a special occasion to commemorate children’s rights and look to the future, a release said Today.
