BSF trooper injured, 57.9 kg heroin, 1.170 kg opium, 2 pistols seized

Gurdaspur, Jan 28 : A Border Security force (BSF) trooper was seriously injured in a gunfight with drug smugglers Today  close to the border with Pakistan, leading to the recovery of 57.9 kg of heroin, 1170 grams opium, two pistols along with three magazines and several cartridges. BSF Deputy Inspector General Prabhakar Joshi said the fighting erupted after BSF personnel spotted and warned the smugglers to halt, but they opened fire, wounding Gyan Chand in the head. He was rushed to a hospital in Amritsar. The incident took place at the border post at Chandu Wadala in Gurdaspur sector. Joshi said a search of the site yielded 57.9 kg of heroin, 1170 grams of opium, two pistols along with magazines and cartridges and 15 feet plastic pipe. The search of the area is still on, he added. (UNI)
