Bharat Bandh: Traffic disrupted in Shimla
Shimla, Sep 27 : ‘Bharat Bandh’ call given by the agitating farmers was observed by the 44 farmers union in Himachal Pradesh under the banner of Himachal Pradesh Kissan Sabha and Syunkat Kissan Munch.
CPI(M) also held protests at many places in the city.
Protesters gathered under Kissan Sabha Secretary at Victory Tunnel at 1200 noon and blocked the vehicular movement for one hours.
Meanwhile CPI (M) Legislator Rakesh Singha also held the protest march which disturbed the traffic movement.
SKM Convenor Harish Chauhan and former Shimla mayor Sanjay Chauhan led the protest at Kotkhai.
Police caught unaware as it paralyzed the traffic and commuters movement in the Town. On the cart road, from ISBT parking to Victory Tunnel and from Khalani to Old ISBT, traffic was diverted via Bypass road.
Farmers especially woman came out in large numbers at Theog, Jubbal Kotkhai and Rohru to support the farmer ‘Bharat Bandh’. Apple growers, who suffered massive loss due to slump in the apple prices, also extended their support to ‘Bharat Bandh’.
Kissan Sabha president Dr Kuldeep Singh Tanwar told UNI that Bharat Bandh was successful and they blocked the Traffic for one hour.
Farmers demanded to withdraw the three farms law and extend benefit of Minimum Support Price (MIS) to all crops on the analogy of Kerala. Farmers also demanding to provide the benefit of MIS scheme to all grades of apple on the analogy of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr Tanwar said that a farmer convention would be held on November 19 this year to bring farmers belonged to three agro climate zones under one banner of SKM.
Farmers in the Kangra district especially in the Mund region are seeking the MSP and setting up procurement Centre for paddy purchase. Off season vegitable and grain growing farmers of Solan district, Una and Sirmaur are also seeking MSP on the wheat and off seasonal vegetables, he added.(UNI)
