Bengal’s law and order situation is getting worse: Pradeep
HYDERABAD, AUG 16 : BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari has stated that the law and order situation in West Bengal is rapidly deteriorating, as evidenced by the rising crime rate and increasing atrocities against women in the state.
Addressing media at the BJP state headquarters here on Friday, Bhandari demanded that Mamata Banerjee resign as Chief Minister of West Bengal.
He expressed concern that despite having a female Chief Minister, women in Bengal are not safe, and their rights are being violated. He cited incidents in Sandeshkhali, Chopra, and Kolkata as examples, noting that these recurring crimes indicate that women in the state are far from secure.
Bhandari specifically criticized Mamata Banerjee for delaying the transfer of the case involving the rape and brutal murder of a female postgraduate doctor in a government hospital in Kolkata to the CBI. He accused her of failing to ensure a proper investigation of the crime scene, which led to the tampering and destruction of crucial evidence.
He emphasized the need for a swift investigation and immediate action against the culprit. However, he argued that due to the failure of Mamata Banerjee’s administration, the perpetrator remains at large despite committing a heinous crime.
Bhandari further alleged that Mamata Banerjee has a history of shielding individuals accused of serious crimes, including Sheikh Shahjahan in the past, and that she is now protecting those involved in the Kolkata rape and murder case.
He accused Banerjee of initially protecting the principal of RG Kar Medical College, while the Bengal police tampered with evidence. Although the principal, Sandip Ghosh, was later forced to resign, Bhandari dismissed this as a mere facade, arguing that Banerjee herself should resign in light of the current situation.
He also condemned the attack on a peaceful doctors’ protest at RG Kar Medical College, which resulted in vandalism. While the CBI has taken over the investigation, Bhandari pointed out that law and order still fall under Mamata Banerjee’s administration.
He suggested that the police may not have acted because the attackers were linked to the TMC, and accused Banerjee of going to great lengths to shield the culprits as part of her appeasement strategy.
Bhandari also criticized Congress and the INDI Alliance leaders, accusing them of politicizing issues in BJP-ruled states while remaining silent on the situation in Bengal. He questioned whether the response to atrocities against women varies depending on the state and political coalition involved.
He further claimed that the INDI Alliance is united by mutual threads of crime and corruption, with leaders like Akhilesh Yadav defending individuals accused of serious crimes, and Mamata Banerjee allegedly engaging in even more egregious cover-ups. According to Bhandari, other INDI Alliance leaders remain mute spectators to these actions.
Bhandari argued that extremism is rampant in West Bengal, where people are denied the right to voice their concerns or protest against injustices. He accused Mamata Banerjee’s administration of dictatorship and asserted that Bengal needs freedom from anarchy, dictatorship, and the TMC to achieve true peace and development.(UNI)
