Bengal reports 4,969 new COVID cases, 34 deaths

Kolkata, Jan 26 : West Bengal Today  reported 4969 new covid cases, increased by 475 from previous day, while thirty four people died of the state, according to the state health department. On Tuesday, the state had logged 4494 cases. Thirty four more people succumbed to the disease during the last 24 hours, taking the overall toll to 20,445. North 24 parganas district accounted for the most number of cases – 697, followed by Kolkata at 654. In South 24 parganas number of new cases increased to 409, followed by Birbhum (319), Nadia (296), Bankura (291), Malda (234), Hooghly (219), Purba Bardhaman (207), Paschim Bardhaman (176), Paschim Medinipur (171), Jalpaiguri (170) and Howrah, the health department bulletin said. The state’s overall tally of infection has now shot up to 19,79,254. Total active cases on Wednesday is 67,369. North 24 parganas and Jalpaiguri topped the fatalities over the last 24 hours with (7) deaths followed by Kolkata (6) The positivity rate is 7.32 percent, while the discharge rate stood at 95.56 percent.(UNI)
