Banerjee urges imitating Tagore’s beliefs and values.

Kolkata, May 9 ; West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday called for emulating the principles espoused by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.
Addressing a function to mark the 162nd birth anniversary of Tagore, Banerjee said, ” Tagore has shown the path to all of us and we must not deviate from the principles espoused by him. “
” BJP is ignorant of Gurudeb’s teachings but right before elections, they try to appropriate his legacy without realising its true essence, ” she stated.
” We should live by Tagore’s ideals of taking Bengal forward, ” the Chief Minister said.
” Today is time to take a pledge and we should not get blinded by self-pride, ” Banerjee added.
Taking a jibe, Banerjee said, ” We should not think during elections that we can misuse money power and buy off votes during elections. They don’t know about Tagore’s life but before election they will write down things on what to say and read it out from the teleprompter. They engage in all big talks, ” she quipped.
Paying homage to Gurudeb Rabindranath Tagore on his birthday, Banerjee said the State Government will organise cultural events.
Celebration in four auditoriums – Rabindra Sadan, Sisir Mancha, Bangla Academy and Ektara Mukta Mancha – will take place from May 10 to-24 with over 3000 artists performing, she informed.
An exhibition highlighting Tagore’s life and work will also be held at Gaganendra Shilpa Pradarshanshala at Santiniketan.
Earlier, taking to Twitter, Banerjee said, ” I pay my humble tribute to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary. “
” His great contribution to literature and art has shaped our rich cultural heritage and inspired many across the globe, ” she added.
” May his teachings and philosophy continue to guide us all, ” she added.(UNI)
