At COP28 in Dubai, King Charles III will give the introductory speech.

LONDON, NOV 1 : UK King Charles III will attend the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in the United Arab Emirates at the invitation of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and deliver an opening speech on December 1, the Royal Family said on Wednesday.

Dubai will host COP28 from November 30-December 12.

“The King will deliver an opening address at the Summit, hosted by the President of the UAE, in Dubai,” the statement read.

Ahead of the climate summit, the monarch will meet with regional leaders, the statement added.

In October 2022, The Times reported that then-Prime Minister Liz Truss had dissuaded Charles III from attending COP27 in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh. Truss’s successor, Rishi Sunak, had kept the request in place, Downing Street said, adding that it was not the “right occasion” for the trip.(UNI)
