As Cyclone Tauktae hits Goa : Digmbar Kamat

Panaji, May 16 : Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat on Sunday said as Cyclone Tauktae hit Goa, Congress team will help Goans in fastest possible time.
In a statement, he said,”Cyclone Tauktae approached much closer to Goa than expected and caused massive damage to property, trees etc. Congress Party has set up a team to help all those in needy. They will try to reach out to those who need help in fastest possible time.”
”BJP Government headed by Dr Pramod Sawant has failed once again. They just remained clueless despite warnings issued by Indian Meteorological Department. I am in constant touch with the district disaster management teams of South and North Goa since morning and monitoring the situation,” he said.
”I have got reports of extensive damage done to many houses, vehicles and other properties. Power supply is disrupted in many parts of Goa. I hope Government machinery will be put in action to take corrective steps,” the former Chief Minister said.
He said said in Margao City, lot of damage was done to the property by uprooting of trees.
”A huge banayan tree fell in Shirvodem, while a tree fell on a house in Comba. Trees fell near T B Hospital at Monte Hill blocking the road. I personally visited the spots and monitored the clearance work. I compliment all the teams who have worked tirelessly braving the cyclonic winds and rains to clear the roads. Congress Party has constituted a team of Dr Pramod Salgaoncar, Joe Dias, Vijay Bhike, Shankar Kirlaparkar, Janardhan Bhandari, James Andrade and Ahraz Mulla who will co-ordinate with each Congress Block and try to help in best possible manner,” he said.(UNI)
