Arrested in bribe case, J&K PDD employee spills beans, more arrests soon: CBI
Jammu, Jul 1 : An employee of Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department arrested in a bribery case has disclosed names of some officers involved in corrupt practices, who will be arrested soon, a senior official of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Jammu here said Today.
The senior official said that the CBI team has arrested one Pawan Kumar, PDD employee posted at Jammu under the Government of Jammu and Kashmir for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000/- from the complainant.
An FIR was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), on the basis of the complaint regarding demand of bribe by the accused posted at Sub-Division-III, Parade, Jammu, for providing connection to main electric supply and updating records of installed electric meters in the name of the complainant.
It was alleged that the complainant had applied for the installation of an electric meter in his residence, in December 2019. “Though the electric meter was installed but connection to main electric supply was not provided and name of the complainant was not updated in the records,” said the CBI official adding that on June 29, 2021, when the complainant contacted the accused, he demanded a bribe of Rs 6,000/- for processing his file.
The complainant refused to pay and approached CBI.
“The complaint was verified and it was found to be genuine,” he said.
Accordingly, on Wednesday, a trap was laid by CBI and the accused Pawan Kumar, an employee with the office of AEE, Power Development Department, Sub-Division-III, Jammu was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe.
Searches were carried out at the office and residential premises of the accused at Jammu.
The accused is being produced before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases), Jammu, he said.
Pertinent to mention here that Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has also taken note of unscheduled power cuts in Jammu recently following which a committee was also framed.
