APC President Steps Down
VIJAYAWADA, JAN 15 : Gidugu Rudraraju on Monday resigned as the President of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC). He sent his resignation letter to the AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge.
Mr.Rudraraju was appointed as APCC president on November 23, 2022.
According to the Congress sources, YS Sharmila is likely to be appointed as the APCC President.
YS Sharmila recently merged her YSR Telangana party into the Congress.
Significantly, YS Sharmila is the younger sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. She took out padayatra in 2012-13 when Jagan Mohan Reddy was in prison in a disproportionate assets case and led the YSRCP for a few months.
However, Jagan Mohan Reddy and Sharmila have been at loggerheads for the last three years. On the assurances by the Congress party on giving due importance and giving her a significant post, she merged her YSRTP into the Congress.
YS Sharmila is also the daughter of late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
If YS Sharmila is appointed as the APCC president, the AP politics will take an interesting turn as sister is to counter her Chief Minister brother Jagan Mohan Reddy in the next Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
Some YSRCP leaders, including an MLA, have already announced to join the Congress and work under Y S Sharmila’s leadership.(UNI)
