AP reports 18,561 fresh cases of Covid, 109 die
Vijayawada, May 17:Though fresh cases of Coronavirus have slightly fallen, the deaths of patients have gone up in Andhra Pradesh as 109 patients died during a period of 24 hours while 18,561 fresh cases were reported.
According to a health bulletin here Today 73,749 swab samples were diagnosed during a period of 24 hours ending at 9 am today of which 18,561 were tested positive while 109 patients died. The pandemic has claimed the lives of 9,481 patients so far. There are 2,11,554 active cases in the state now. As many as 17,334 have recovered from the Coronavirus during a period of 24 hours.
East Godavari district continued to lead the state in registering the highest number of 3,152 cases while 2,094 new cases were reported in Anantapur district and 2,098 fresh cases were reported in Visakhapatnam district. The total number of positive cases has gone up to 14,51,157 while 12,30,122 have been discharged from various hospitals as they recovered. So far 1,80,49,054 swab samples have been diagnosed in AP.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy reviewed the Covid situation with the officials here on Monday. The officials apprised him that the state had received 75,99,960 vaccine doses of which 62,60,400 are Covishield while 13,39,560 are Covaxin.
The officials informed the Chief Minister that there are 47,825 beds in 625 Covid hospitals of which 38,492 beds were occupied. As many as 25,539 Covid patients are undergoing treatment under Arogyasri scheme. The officials told him that the Centre had allocated 590 metric tonnes of oxygen.
The Chief Minister wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to take steps to supply 910 MT of Oxygen. In his letter to the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister said, ”AP has taken action to add 30,000 more ICU oxygen beds in view of covid pandemic. I request you to direct the authorities concerned to continue the oxygen express from Jamnagar, Reliance plant till the caseload comes manageable levels”, and appealed for allocation of 910 MT of LMO to AP.(UNI)
