AP Rains : Death toll rises to 21, CM conducts aerial survey
Vijayawada, Nov 20 : As many as 21 people were killed due to heavy rains and floods in Kadapa, Anantapur, Chittoor districts of Andhra Pradesh.
The incessant rains and heavy floods created havoc in Kadapa, Nellore and Chittoor districts, which have taken 21 lives so far and search is on for the 18 missing people.
Official sources said that 12 people washed away in Nandalur village in Rajampet division and the bodies were fished out. Massive search is on for 18 missing people in Kadapa district.
As many as six people, including two children were killed, when a two-storied house collapsed in Kadiri Town in Anantapur district. Nine were rescued in the incident.
Additional Superintendent of Police Ramakrishna Prasad, RDO Venkata Reddy and other officials monitored the rescue operations.
One person Subbaiah (75) washed away while crossing a stream at Kadriga. A 23-year-old youth Ranijt was killed when a house caved in at Gantimarri in Ramagiri Mandal of Anantapur district.
A farmer Butchchaiah (50) washed away in the flood water at Srirangarajapuram in Buchireddypalem Mandal in Nellore district. The body was fished out.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy conducted an aerial survey in the flood affected districts of Kadapa, Anantapur, Nellore and Chittoor.
Official sources said the Chief Minister witnessed the Papagni, Penna rivers, the Buggavanka rivulet, Annamayya, Cheyyur reservoir which were breached.
He spoke with officials at Renigunta airport who explained the Chief Minister about the rescue and relief operations being taken up in the affected areas.
The Chief Minister directed the officials to formulate a master plan to modernize the drainage system in Tirupati city.(UNI)
