AP Governor participates in eRUPI launch program
Vijayawada, Aug 2: Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan participated virtually in the program organised for the launch of eRUPI prepaid e-voucher by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.
A release from the AP Governor’s office said, addressing the Governors, Lt Governors, Union Ministers, Chief Secretaries and other dignitaries who participated in the launch program, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said eRUPI is an example of digital governance and a futuristic reform.
He said with the launch of eRUPI, the digital governance in the country has entered a new era of digital transactions, the Direct Benefit Transfer system and will play a more effective role in targeted, transparent, leak-proof delivery of services.
The Prime Minister said that the eRUPI system is being utilised for the transfer of benefits in the health sector initially and will be extended to other sectors in the coming days and said private organizations, Philanthropists, NGOs can also make use of the eRUPI system for transfer of funds to reach out to targeted beneficiaries.
The Prime Minister said eRUPI is a purpose-specific, person-specific prepaid e-Voucher for cashless and contactless payment and is the best example of the use of digital technology as a tool to empower the poor. With the launch of eRUPI, India has demonstrated to the world that we are not lagging behind other countries in the adoption of digital technology, said the Prime Minister.
Payment for Covid vaccination at a private vaccination center in Mumbai given to a beneficiary through the eRUPI prepaid e-Voucher received by him through a QR code on his mobile phone was demonstrated as the first application on eRUPI digital payment platform, during the launch program. Sri Mukesh Kumar Meena, Secretary to Governor, also attended the program.(UNI)
