Telangana MD&UR Dept releases annual report 2020–2021

Hyderabad, Jul 9: Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department Today released its annual report 2020-2021.
Speaking on the occasion, MA&UD Minister KT Rama said this is the 4th year in a row that the annual report for the MAUD department is presented.
He said the year 2020 was marked by one of the biggest global crises in modern history with the Covid-19 pandemic affecting one & all. MAUD, being the custodian of civic services & urban infrastructure, remains the most prominent face of governance and complemented the selfless and terrific services of the frontline workers of MAUD while ensuring daily sanitation & ensuring water supply, among others.
With their selfless services, often putting their health at risk, the sanitation & water supply workers have ensured near-normal services in urban areas during the lockdown and entire pandemic, the Minister said.
Perhaps, in one of its kind effort in the country/internationally during the pandemic adversity, we made use of the time available during the lockdown and could take up major urban infrastructure works, especially laying greenfield new link roads, flyovers, RUBs, ROBs, and re-carpeting existing roads.
” We could effectively utilize the working time of 12-16 hours every day since the roads /locations were empty, as compared to about 3-4 hours during normal times and thus could complete infrastructure works in a record time of 2-4 months what otherwise would have taken 9 months to a year”, he said.
The state government successfully conducted the elections in urban local bodies during the year and all the new elected bodies, in accordance with the provisions of the Telangana Municipalities Act 2019, are in place.
” Telangana is the only state in the country which will have Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTPs) in all the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs)”, the Minister said.
Mr. Rao said, ” We have also decided to construct 15 new bridges across river Musi in Hyderabad. This was long overdue and will not only help millions of people in terms of time savings and ease of travel but will ensure opening up of new areas for planned development”.
