Telangana logs 2,055 fresh COVID-19 cases, seven fatalities until Wednesday night

Hyderabad, April 8: Daily COVID-19 cases continue to spike in Telangana with 2,055 fresh cases being reported until 2000 hours on Wednesday taking the overall Coronavirus caseload to 3,18,704 so far.

This is the biggest daily rise in Coronavirus cases in the state in more than seven months.

The cumulative toll mounted to 1,741 as of Wednesday after seven patients died of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours translating a case fatality rate of 0.54 percent as against the countrywide mortality rate of 1.3 percent, according to a state health department bulletin here on Thursday.

As many as 303 people have recovered from Coronavirus state-wide to push the total number of recoveries till date to 3,03,601 constituting a recovery rate of 95.26 percent while the National recovery rate was 91.7 percent.

Currently, the active cases stand at 13,362 including 8,263 individuals in-home or institutional isolation, the bulletin said.

Between Tuesday and Wednesday, 87,332 swab samples have been tested in the state to detect the contagious virus and out of which the reports of 4,457 swab samples are awaited.

Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, more than one crore six lakh COVID-19 tests have been carried out in the state so far.

The worst-hit Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) being the major contributor of the infection reported a maximum of 398 new Coronavirus cases since the last 24 hours followed by Medchal Malkajigiri district (214), Rangareddy district (174), Nizamabad district (169), Nirmal district (100) and Jagityal district (99).

The remaining COVID-19 cases have been reported by other districts, the bulletin added. (UNI)
