Assembly Poll : Election campaign to pick up momentum in a couple of days

Puducherry, Mar 22 : Though, candidates of political parties have started election campaign by taking up door-to-door canvassing and open jeep campaign, the momentum of electioneering is expected to pick up in a couple of days after the withdrawal of nominations on Monday.

Top leaders of the BJP including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, party President J P Nadda had first round of campaign in the UT much earlier for the April 6 Assembly election.

While, Mr Modi and Mr Nadda canvassed in Puducherry region, Mr Shah undertaken the campaign in Karaikal region.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will be addressing a public meeting here this afternoon, while, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be visiting Puducherry on March 24 and Prime Minister again on March 30.

The BJP which is making desperate efforts to form a government in the UT in alliance with the N R Congress is not leaving any stone unturned and a host of party leaders from Delhi and Karnataka are camping here for quite a few days.

In the Secular Democratic Alliance (SDA), former AICC President Rahul Gandhi visited Puducherry some time back and former Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, told news persons on Sunday that Mr.Gandhi and Ms Priyanka Vadra will visit Puducherry for electioneering.

The SDA is to kickstart its election campaign from Kalapet this evening.(UNI)
