Srinagar, Mar 18 : Police solved a hit-and-run fatal accident case that took place on Srinagar-Jammu national highway in the wee hours Thursday, a police spokesperson said.

He said Police Station Qazigund received information that SO Traffic Bonigam, ASI Mohammad Shafi Bhat was hit by unknown truck at Bonigam resulting his on the spot death. “The driver of the truck fled away from spot along with vehicle,” he said.

He said acting promptly, Police Station Qazigund constituted special teams to intercept the vehicle along with accused driver. “The team led by SHO Qazigund after strenuous efforts intercepted the involved vehicle (truck) bearing registration number JK22B-4365 along with the accused driver from Choimulla area of Anantnag,” he said.

He said the accused, identified as Javid Ahmad Bhat, was immediately taken into custody. “Vehicle involved in the crime has also been seized,” he said.

“A case FIR under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Qazigund regarding the incident and further investigation of the case is in progress,” he added.(UNI)
