W V Ramanamurthy appointed as SEC

Panaji, Mar 18 (UNI) Ahead of the municipal elections in the state, the Goa Government on Thursday appointed retired IAS Officer W V Ramanamurthy as State Election Commissioner (SEC).
The post had fallen vacant after resignation of Chokha Ram Garg, who also held post of Law Secretary.
Recently, Supreme Court had upheld the order of Goa Bench of Bombay High Court over quashing of notification reserving wards in five municipal councils. The apex court had also questioned appointment of Mr Garg to the post.
The elections for all the five municipal councils have been postponed. The dates are yet to be announced.
Mr Ramanamurthy had earlier served as Managing Director of Economic Development Corporation (EDC).
Governor B S Koshyari had cleared the proposal of the state government to appoint Mr Ramanamurthy as new SEC on Wednesday.(UNI)
