KTR calls GO 29 unconstitutional and vows to fight it
HYDERABAD, OCT 21 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K T Rama Rao (KTR) has called Government Order (GO) 29 unconstitutional, stating that the party will fight for its revocation.
Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, KTR highlighted that the BRS had been approached by students concerned about GO 29 and, at their request, had engaged senior advocate Kapil Sibal to challenge the order in the Supreme Court.
“We expected a hearing on Friday, but it was deferred to Monday. The Supreme Court did not object to any of our points and has directed that no results be declared until a verdict is reached on GO 29. The Court also requested an expedited hearing,” KTR explained.
He noted that under the previous BRS-led state government, GO 55 was issued, ensuring merit-based opportunities for all in the open category while adhering to reservations for SC, ST, BC, and EWS categories.
“However, GO 29 unfairly restricts opportunities for reserved category candidates by excluding them from their own categories if they secure a position in the open category. This is a clear injustice, and since February, we’ve been voicing our concerns,” KTR said.
KTR further accused Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of exploiting the issue to sow division among students and weaken the reservation system. “Our leaders—Harish Rao, Dasoju Sravan, and R.S. Praveen Kumar—have all raised their voices against this injustice. Students preparing for the Group 1 Mains are now facing uncertainty due to the government’s inaction,” he added.
He emphasized the BRS’s continued support for students until the case is resolved. “The students’ demands are simple: why hasn’t the government addressed their concerns? Is it wrong to point out that GO 29 is unconstitutional? KCR has fought for 95 per cent reservation for locals, but now there are conspiracies to bring in non-locals,” KTR remarked.
KTR questioned the government’s reluctance to reschedule exams until these issues are addressed. “This government is undermining the reservations of SC, ST, and BC communities through GO 29 and is conspiring to benefit non-locals. We will fight for the students in court with the best legal representation. This is not just about GO 29—Group 4 employees impacted by GO 46 also deserve support,” he asserted.
KTR warned to the government, stating, “In a democracy, one must know when to compromise and when to fight. Undermining constitutionally guaranteed reservations is the worst form of injustice.
” The BRS has pledged to continue its legal and political battle against GO 29 and any policies that adversely affect students and backward communities in Telangana.
