ED cautions govt employees of initiating action for showing reluctance in taking election duty

Puducherry, Mar 17: The Election department here on Wednesday cautioned the government employees who are showing reluctance in taking election duty that stringent action would be initiated against them.
Deputy District Election Officer Sakthivel in a release said that as many as 5,759 polling personnel were selected and were given training for the April 6 Assembly election.
Meanwhile, several polling officials are requesting to relive them from election duty citing medical grounds.
Sakthivel said due to COVID-19, the number of polling booths were doubled in the Union Territory and hence, the number of election officials could not be reduced.
He said the applications received from such officers will be forwarded to a separate medical Board constituted by the health department and any one found not fit to do election duty will be recommended for voluntary retirement from service.
Disciplinary action will be initiated against those found fit and even then requested for exemption from election duty, he added.(UNI)
