HYDERABAD, AUG 6 : Telangana BJP on Tuesday paid rich tributes to former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj on her death anniversary.
Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy participated in the ceremony at the BJP state office and paid his respects.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said, “On behalf of the Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, we pay our respects to late Sushma Swaraj on her death anniversary. Sushma Swaraj held many important positions in the Bharatiya Janata Party and earned the respect of people from all walks of life.”
Reddy highlighted Sushma Swaraj’s significant role in the movement for a separate Telangana state.
He noted that during the movement, Sushma Swaraj was a key figure in Parliament, advocating for the cause of Telangana. He recalled working as the BJP state president during those days and how Sushma Swaraj delivered speeches across all district centres in Telangana, supporting the activists.
He mentioned that during the general strike in Telangana, the then Congress government imposed police restrictions and subjected activists and people to various forms of harassment. Despite this, Sushma Swaraj stood by the activists, providing them with courage and support. As the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, she played an active role during the introduction of the separate Telangana state bill and supported the people of Telangana.
Sushma Swaraj was a great leader who raised the voice of Telangana in support of activists and Osmania University students in the Lok Sabha. She pressured the then Congress government to put the Telangana Bill to a vote in the Lok Sabha and spoke about the Reorganisation Act as the Leader of the Opposition party.
Reddy stated that all BJP workers are united in pursuing the aspirations of Telangana martyrs and Sushma Swaraj. “We will work for the development of the state by following in their footsteps and will work with determination to achieve a democratic Telangana in the spirit of Sushma Swaraj and the martyrs,” he said.(UNI)
