Puducherry, Mar 6:The Yanam Coastal Police on Friday seized and destroyed 8000 litres of fermented wash kept ready for arrack distillation.
According to excise sources here on Saturday, on a tip off, Yanam Coastal police raided Island Number Three and found the barrels.
The fermented wash was destroyed there itself and the police brought the empty barrels to the police station.
It is suspected that the manufactured arrack is to be distributed during the Assembly election to be held in next month.
Yanam Regional Administrator Aman Sharma, Superintendent of Police Bakthavalsalam and others participated in the raid.
Meanwhile, Bahour police here seized 200 arrack packets along with a motorcycle at Kuruvinatham near here last night.
One Jayaprakash from Cuddalore was arrested and he was handed over to the excise police. (UNI)
