Palghar, Mar 4 :Five persons including a lady constable from Vasai and her paramour also a constable have been arrested by the district rural police in connection with the brutal killing of her husband a rickshaw driver and dumping his body on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway the police said.

Addressing a news conference at the Police headquarters the District Superintendent of Police Palghar Dattatreya Shinde told newsmen that it was on February 18, the body of the victim with injuries on his head dumped in an overturned auto was found in Dhokale village of the district. An offence under section 302 of the IPC was registered then against the unidentified persons with the Manor police station.
The victim was identified as Pundalik Patil, 38 of Vasai.

The police team which carried out the probe finally zeroed on the five accused who have been since arrested. The police did not not reveal their names for specific purposes.

The police said that during the probe it was revealed that the victims wife who served as a police constable in Vasai was in love with her colleague. The victim was opposed to it and there used to be frequent quarrel between the couple over the same issue.

Hence the wife wanted to liquidate her husband and hatched a conspiracy along with her paramour to get rid of him.

The accused then took the help of the three other accused persons who hired the rickshaw and took the victim on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad road and in the small hours of the ill-fated day attacked him with hard and blunt object on his head and killed him and dumped his body in the rickshaw and overturned the rickshaw to pose as if it was an accident.
