Telangana Assembly adopts a resolution on caste census by unanimous vote.

HYDERABAD, FEB 16   :    The Telangana Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a resolution supporting the implementation of a caste census on Friday.

Backward Class Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, the proponent of the resolution, emphasised the need for justice across all communities and urged against politicizing the caste census. He assured me that suggestions from all political parties would be considered.

Prabhakar criticized the previous BRS government for conducting an integrated survey without making the data public. He also condemned the government for not utilizing the allocated Rs 1000 crore for OBCs from the budget.

Highlighting the importance of the caste census for the development of backward classes, Prabhakar mentioned the OBC caste census conducted in 2011 without accompanying legislation.

BRS working President K T Rama Rao welcomed the caste census initiative but stressed the necessity of enacting supporting legislation for its success.

He called for the implementation of BC declaration initiatives and urged the extension of the assembly budget session for two additional days  Rao also suggested introducing bills related to the caste census.(UNI)
