Iraq calls for the US envoy to be summoned due to airstrikes
HYDERABAD FEB 3 : Iraq has called upon the US chargé d’affaires in Baghdad to present a formal protest memorandum over the airstrikes that were conducted overnight on numerous locations utilized by anti-terror resistance groups within the nation.
Due to the absence of Ambassador Alina L. Romanowski, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry declared in a statement on Saturday that it will be calling in David Burger “in protest at the US aggression which targeted Iraqi civilian and military sites,” according to the official Iraqi News Agency (INA).
According to the statement, representatives from Iraq will present a formal protest note regarding the strikes that have been carried out against the western province of Anbar’s cities of Akashat and Al-Qa’im.
At least 16 individuals, according to the Iraqi government, died as a result of the US bombings. The “new aggression against” Iraq’s sovereignty was denounced. According to a government spokeswoman, bombs that targeted both civilian and security areas resulted in the deaths of several civilians and the injuries of twenty-five others.
The Iraqi government declared, “This aggressive strike will put security in Iraq and the region on the brink of the abyss,” and dismissed as “false” and “aimed at misleading international public opinion” Washington’s accusations that Baghdad was involved in the assault coordination.
According to a statement from Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al-Sudani’s office, the US-led military coalition’s presence in the area “has become a reason for threatening security and stability in Iraq and a justification for involving Iraq in regional and international conflicts.”
Following the attacks in the desert region and border areas with Iraq, multiple casualties were also reported by the official Syrian news agency, SANA.
According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), US military forces used “many aircraft, including long-range bombers flown from the United States” to strike more than 85 targets in the two countries.
“More than 125 precision munitions were used in the airstrikes,” the statement continued.
In a statement released on Friday, US President Joe Biden stated that the attacks were the first of several steps Washington was taking in reaction to a recent drone attack that claimed many lives at a remote US base in Jordan.
“We started our response today,” stated Biden. He said, “It will go on at times and locations of our choosing.”
In Sunday’s attack on the military base known as Tower 22, which is close to the border between Jordan and Syria, three US soldiers were killed and approximately forty more were injured.
The drone strike was carried out by the umbrella organization of anti-terrorist forces in Iraq, the Islamic Resistance.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq declared it has launched missile strikes against the Ain al-Asad Airbase, which houses US occupation forces in the western Iraqi province of Anbar, in retaliation for the most recent round of US strikes in Syria and Iraq.
The group added that it had orchestrated drone and missile attacks against the al-Khadra Village in the northeastern province of al-Hasakah of Syria and the vital al-Tanf military camp in southeast Syria, close to the borders with Jordan and Iraq.
