HYDERABAD JAN 24 : The Telangana government is about to release new rules to determine whether prisoners qualify for remission, meaning that the process of awarding remission to convicted prisoners in Telangana goes back to the beginning. In a day or two, the government is supposed to issue an order establishing the parameters.

A list of files created by the previous administration was returned by the governor of the BRS government without permission.

The recently elected Congress government in Telangana has now made the decision to start the process over and grant remission to eligible prisoners.

“The government is prepared to release rules to determine who is qualified for remission. According to Telangana Police officials who spoke with TOI, the government will establish a committee that will review each case individually in order to identify qualified inmates.

In accordance with protocol, the government will get the list that the committee is to produce and forward it to the governor for final approval. Convicts are only allowed to leave prison with the governor’s approval.

Previously, qualified prisoners were released approximately four years ago.

However, the Governor returned the material to government after evaluating it when the previous government attempted a similar operation more than a year ago.
