Stalin departs for Delhi for the INDIA bloc meeting, where he will meet with the PM to discuss the release of funds for cyclone relief.
CHENNAI, DEC 18 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin on Monday evening left for
New Delhi to take part in the Opposition INDIA bloc meeting and he would also be meeting
Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking immediate release of Central assistance for
undertaking relief works in cyclone affected districts of the State.
This is the first meeting of the Opposition parties post the outcome of the Assembly polls
in five states held recently.
Mr Stalin is likely to meet Mr Modi tomorrow night during which he was expected to submit
a detailed memorandum on the damages caused by the Cyclone in Chennai and three
of its neighbouring districts and also on the massive floods due to record rainfall in the
southern districts, which were marooned during the last two days of torrential downpour.
The southern Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts bore the brunt of the massive floods
traiggered by heavy rains and the normal life was completely crippled, with the Army,
Coast Guard and the Navy joining the relief and restoration works along with the SDRF,
NDRF, Police, fire service and revenue department officials.
