Maha: The Dhome irrigation dam’s left canal burst in the Satara district.

KOLHAPUR/SATARA, DEC 16   :    A left canal of Dhome irrigation dam in Wai tehsil of Satara district, burst in Pande village limits early Saturday morning and a large amount of water entered the Chandrabhaga stream of Ozarde village.

With large scale of water, Chandrabhaga stream has taken the form of a flood, and domestic materials of sugarcane workers, who were sleeping, have been washed away in flooding water, two bulls of sugarcane workers also washed away in the speedy water and the search operation has been taken while twelve other bulls were rescued.

The top government officials including divisional officer Rajendrakumar Jadhav, and API Ramesh Garje rushed to the spot and took away sugarcane workers to a safe place.

Considering the drought situation in Khatav and Maan in the district, the irrigation department released water from the Dhome irrigation dam but the flow of the water was so severe that the water from the canal directly entered the Chandrabhaga stream from the farm, damaging the crop and water also barged into the tent of labourers.(UNI)
