BAGHDAD, DEC 8  :   The US Embassy in Iraq, located in Baghdad’s central Green Zone housing foreign diplomatic missions and officials’ residences, was targeted with several rockets on Friday morning, a source in the Iraqi security services told Sputnik, adding that no one was injured in the incident.

“The US embassy in the Green Zone was attacked by several rockets at dawn today. They fell in the embassy’s vicinity, and no casualties in the incident were reported,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the US embassy urged the Iraqi government to protect its personnel after several rockets fell near the diplomatic mission’s premises and caused material damage, media reported.

The wave of attacks on US forces in Iraq and Syria comes amid heightened tensions in the region, following an October attack on Israel by Palestinian armed group Hamas, as well as an increase in incidents involving US warships in the Red Sea.(UNI)
