Opp stall proceedings of UP assembly over farmers agitation

Lucknow, Feb 19 : United opposition on Friday, the second day of the budget session, stalled the proceedings of the Uttar Pradesh assembly over the farmers agitation.

The opposition members led by Samajwadi Party and followed by Congress and BSP trooped in the well of the house as the day started demanding debate on the farmers’ agitation.

The house was adjourned for 30 minutes first after around 6 minutes of pandemonium and thereafter it was extended till zero hour. Due to the pandemonium, the question hour was washed out.

Speaker H N Dikshit tried to pacify the members and even allowed them to raise the issue through adjournment notice during zero hour. But the opposition refused to relent.

Leader of the opposition Ram Govind Choudhury alleged that several farmers have died during the agitation and the BJP governments at the Centre and in UP are not concerned about the farmers welfare.

However parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Kumar Khanna charged the opposition for misleading the farmers over the new farm laws.

He also charged that these opposition politician parties had jailed BKU leader Mahendra Singh Tikait for 2 years during their regime.(UNI)
