Kerala is hit by heavy rain, and two children are murdered in Kozhikode.
Kannur, July 24 :The district collectors of three districts—Kannur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad have declared holidays for all educational institutions, including the professional colleges, on Monday in the wake of heavy rains that have lashed out since yesterday.Two siblings, Muhammed Aadi (13) and Muhammed Ashir (7), sons of V Abdul Jaleel and Najeera, drowned in a water-logged pit (septic tank) of an under-construction house at Korangad near Thamarassery on Sunday late evening, when they were on the way to a nearby tuition centre in Kozhikode district.The parents were to start search operations ,when they could not see the children after the tuition time and found the bodies. They rushed to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, but doctors declared them dead.The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in North Malabar districts on Monday, and heavy rainfall will be downpouring up to July 27 under the influence of cyclonic circulations over the Bay of Bengal.Waterlogging and strong winds have been reported across North Kerala since Sunday, and a large number of trees falling over houses and across the roads were reported in many places of North Malabar on Sunday.Fire force, police, and KSEB personnel were engaged to remove the huge trees from the blockade on vehicle traffic, including at various places, including Nedumpoyil in Kozhikode on Monday.IMD also indicates heavy rain will fall in nine districts Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod in the next two days.(UNI)
