2 forest workers were hurt in a militant attack near Pulwama, according to police
Srinagar, July 19 : Two employees of forest department were injured in a militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said on Wednesday.Initially the officials had suspected that the attack during the night may have been carried out by timber smugglers.However, police termed it a “terror attack”.They said Police Station Rajpora received information through reliable sources that militants had fired upon a team of forest department of neighbouring district Budgam causing injuries to two employees, who had laid a checkpoint to apprehend the timber smugglers near Bangender Bridge in Pulwama.“The injured were immediately evacuated to hospital for treatment,” police said.Both the injured were identified as Imran Yousaf Wani of Mohnu, Charar-e-Sharif Budgam, and forester Jahangir Ahmed Chechi a resident of Gogjipather, Chadoora Budgam.While Imran, a forest casual labour had a bullet injury in thigh and was shifted to SHMS Hospital in Srinagar for specialised treatment, Jahangir had received minor superficial injuries and was discharged after first aid.Police said an under sections 16,20 UAP ( Act) , 307 IPC and 7/ 27 IA Act was registered in Police Station Rajpora and investigation has been initiated.Soon after the incident the whole area was cordoned off by Police, Army and central armed police forces and an intensive search operation was launched.“During the search of the scene of crime, two empty fired cartridges of AK-47 ammunition and one bullet head was recovered from the spot,” police said, adding the search operation is going on.(UNI)
