Press button, cross the street safely: police

Hyderabad: Simply push the button to cross the street safely. The Hyderabad traffic police have now installed pelican signals throughout the stretch to make it easier for people to cross the constantly congested Tank Bund in total comfort.

The pedestrians and drivers benefit from the signals, which were officially launched on Wednesday by Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand, with the former crossing the road stretch after warning the latter.

According to Anand, the main advantages of this engineering technique are “a controlled and safe flow of traffic” and “increased visibility of cross walks to drivers.” The traffic police will initially station traffic volunteers to operate the pelican signals and instruct the general public in their use.

Pelican signals are being put for the first time in India, according to Anand. When the traffic signal is turned red in both directions for all of these signals, there will be a window of 15 to 20 seconds for one to safely cross the road.

100 body worn cameras were also distributed by him to traffic frontline cops. Police officers can use the cameras to capture their encounters with the public while conducting enforcement, during accidents, and during other occurrences.

From the traffic control room, one can watch the live video from the body-worn camera. This would increase accountability and transparency in traffic management and prevent unwelcome behaviours from both violators and enforcement personnel, the official said.

Additionally, traffic officers received a package that included a raincoat, rain boots, glucose packets, water bottles, and sunglasses. Anand also gave patrol officers durable tabs that would enable them to respond to Dial 100 emergency calls, screen potential criminals, keep a close eye on history sheeters using internal applications and geolocation features, and instantly access departmental data.
