Mafia members pleading for compassion and a chance at life: Yogi
Rae Bareli/Unnao (UP), Apr 25 :Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday reiterated his government’s tough stand against the mafia and criminal elements in the state and said now the criminals are begging for their lives and are pleading to live like a common man.
Addressing people during election rallies in Rae Bareli and Unnao in support of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates in urban local body polls, Yogi said, “Mafias are begging for mercy to lead regular lives and earn livelihood by honest means due to zero-tolerance against crime in UP.”
Without taking any name, he attacked the previous government and said that while prior to 2017 those associated with a particular party brandished firearms, today youth in UP work on tablets. “Before 2017, the traders were exploited by extorting money from them, today they are benefiting from PM SVANidhi scheme. Prior to 2017, there was terror of miscreants, today safe cities are being made,” he said.
The CM said, “Earlier, there were heaps of garbage, but today’s cities are becoming smart. Now there is no place for mafia-criminals, crime, corruption and corrupt people in UP.
He said that six years ago the criminals and mafias used to walk with straight heads and used to spread fear, but today they are scared of roaming alone and are seen begging for life with placards hanging around their necks.
Yogi said that India has transformed in the last nine years. “India’s transformation has become the center of attraction for the world. The dream that 140 crore people had seen for this India is being fulfilled without any discrimination under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Similarly, there has been a change in the perception towards UP inside India in the last six years,” he said.
He said that before 2017, the youth of the state had to conceal their identity. “People could not celebrate festivals peacefully, however, today development projects are being implemented on the ground. In the last six years the double engine government has provided one house each to more than 54 lakh poor people in rural and urban areas. A total of 17 lakh houses have been given only in the urban areas whereas toilets have been built for 2.61 crore poor,” he said.
The CM said, “Besides, free gas connections have been provided under Ujjwala scheme in addition to free electricity connections, Ayushman Bharat scheme is benefitting 10 crore people. Foodgrains are being given to 15 crore people free of cost for the last three years”, he said.
He said that though Unnao is known as the land of pen and sword it also conveys the message of intimacy. “In the 2022 assembly elections you made all the candidates victorious by showing belief in the double-engine government. I thank all of you for this,” he said.
Yogi said that the civic elections are not small and are meant to add the ‘third engine’ to the existing ‘double engine’ government of the BJP in the state to accelerate development of the state.
The CM also criticised the previous governments for creating a law and order crisis that resulted in forbidding girls from going to school. “You have seen the changing UP in six years. The merchant does not pay extortion. Today, the cities have not become garbage dumps. There are no curfews and no riots, because now all is well in UP. The state is now known for its festivals, such as Rangotsav in Varanasi, Dev Diwali in Kashi, and Deepotsav in Ayodhya,” he said.
He said that the vision of the PM is the mission of UP. “The Ganga Expressway is being constructed to connect western Uttar Pradesh with central and eastern UP. The people of Unnao will also benefit. With the construction of the Ganga Expressway, Delhi will be reached in just six hours and Prayagraj in two hours,” he said.(UNI)
